Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)

Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) describes a treatment process with the goal of removing all the liquid waste from a system. The focus of ZLD is to economically reduce wastewater and produce clean water that is suitable for reuse, thus saving money and being beneficial to the environment. ZLD systems employ advanced wastewater treatment technologies to purify and recycle virtually all of the wastewater produced.

Description

Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) describes a treatment process with the goal of removing all the liquid waste from a system. The focus of ZLD is to economically reduce wastewater and produce clean water that is suitable for reuse, thus saving money and being beneficial to the environment. ZLD systems employ advanced wastewater treatment technologies to purify and recycle virtually all of the wastewater produced.

Also ZLD technologies help plants meet discharge and water reuse requirements, enabling businesses to meet stringent government discharge regulations, reach higher water recovery (%) and to treat and recover valuable products from waste streams, such as precious metals.
ZLD processes nowadays often deploy thermal evaporation technologies, mechanical vapor compression and crystallizers. ZLD plants produce solid waste.

De.mem’s Forward Osmosis technology is a new product which is deployed by De.mem exclusively within ZLD water treatment plants. De.mem’s FO has advantages in reduced capital expenditure and operating cost (through reduced power consumption) vs. conventional ZLD processes.
